No Audio Output Device is Installed

    Hello,

Can anyone help me get my onboard sound to work? Newly put together computer, and after trying drivers on CD, on Gigabyte home page, and newly posted 2.54 from Realtek site, I still have no sound. Ive tried everything I can think of driver wise, toggled BIOS option for Azalia codec off/on, even did a clean fresh install of Windows 7.

Device Manager/Sound tells me no audio device is installed, under control panel/sound video and game, the only thing listed is Nvidea HD Audio, from when I installed video drivers. Any advice Id be willing to try anything at this point.

    Thanks for your help.
    Regards.

    Motherboard is Gigabyte X58-USB3
running Windows 7 64 Home Premium

You tried a lot of things. Even went to Realtek for latest driver, as the latest driver on Gigabyte is 2.51.

So under device manager, you do not have ANY yellow exclamation marks?

none. the only thing is Nvidia HD Audio. The only way i can get ! is if i add legacy device, then i can play around and sometimes get an entry for realtek with the !, Ive tired to do a manual update this way but no go. I either get there are no problems found or there is a problem with the drivers, reinstalling them may fix issue.

Just reinstalled the latest from realtek site and after reboot there was a problem installing drivers for this device. Then clicking on taskbar gives me to try reinstalling them. And I was able to play around and got the ! with Realtek High Definition Audio to display. If i choose to right click/update, an auto search tells me the driver is up to date. If i properties, I get an "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". Maybe this info is useful?

this may be a silly question...but...is the HD Audio Controller 'enabled' in your BIOS (I have mine disabled, as I don't use this machine for audio)

Sounds like you are having the problem I was. Did you update your Nvidia graphics driver?

I did toggle the onboard azalia codec in the bios between off and auto, many many times after installing various drivers and rebooting.
Graphics drivers are most recent from Nvidia site.
CD, Giga site, and Realtek site mostly all list drivers for Vista_Win7 however the R253 set clearly say x64 in the file name, I think I may have got these elsewhere, still a no go.
Im all open for suggestions, thx all.

Uninstall the nvidia 3D sound drivers, install your realtek driver, and then tell me if that fixes the problem :)

Uninstalled Nvidia HD Audio Driver, installed realtek 2.54, reboot and still nothing. I have about 8 High Definition audio device entries under Sound,Video... and still the 1 realtek entry with yellow exclamation. Tried a manual update of that by pointing to directory and it states driver is up to date. When I click on red X on speaker in toolbar i get the same "there is a problem with the driver from realtek, clicking on tshoot and apply this fix gives me Realtek High Definition audio driver has a problem Not FIxed. I appreciate the help folks. Any further suggestions most welcome.
