    Loud static on HTPC tv

    Not sure if anyone can help with this but recently, as in sometime in the last few days, my HTPC audio has gone spastic.

    When trying to watch live tv or previously recorded tv (still in the media centre tv format) there is really load static over the top of the audio stream. When I say loud I mean take those warehouse clearance ads (Mr bankrupt for example) and multiply by 100. It has got to be the maximum audio output and I thought it was going to kill the tv speakers!

    Watching video in any other form (AVI, MKV, h264, mpg) is fine and all other audio I have used (mostly mp3 or ogg) seems to work too.

    PC info below;

    CPU – 3Ghtz Athlon 64 X2 6000+
    MOBO – Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H
    RAM – 4 GB DDR2 RAM
    TV Tuner – Compro E750F
    OS – Windows 7 (Media Centre 7)

    Has anyone encountered this before or have suggestions?

    just a short idea: Did you recently change any cables? It sure sounds like defective/insufficient shielding of some sort.

    No cable changes but I would have thought that kind of problem would affect all audio not just specific file types.

    My thinking was there is a software issue, either my own settings or some windows update / driver update has changed something... but I don't remember installing anything recently.
