Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound panel. In the playback section, reset your speakers (sound card) as the default playback device. That should get regular sound back if the ATI set its HDMI as the playback device.

In the Playback panel, RIGHT click in an empty area and then check to show disabled devices and disconnected devices and see if your Speakers (sound card) show up.

If there is still nothing, go to the Device manager and Uninstall the sound module (DO NOT uninstall the drivers) and then restart the PC and when Windows starts it should detect and reinstall the sound.

Go into the bios and double check that the onboard audio hasn't been disabled. HP being HP I wouldn't be surprised that they have the bios set to auto disable the onboard when a sound card is installed, and the 5670 does have a sound card built into it.
