    waveout mix and mic

basically when i turn them both on 2 things happen:

    1) audio gets distorted like crazy when i use it on winamp
    2) the mic gets disabled

i've been dying to get this solved because it is not a winamp problem but a serious windows problem. i can't find a solution anywhere. anyone. please help...

the distortion problem is temporarily solved by adjusting the level but only temporarily.

    please help

get the drivers to your hardware. make sure windows is updated, and this post: How-To Make Windows 7 Automatically Find New Device Drivers will show you how to have windows update drivers automatically. If that doesn't work, let us know

It would help if you filled out your system specs in your profile. You are using a specific program? How long has this been going on?

does your mic have updated software? Windows might not find everything, you might need to go to the website to download.

Right. there is nothing special about my mic. all the drivers are up to date.

    HP dv2213tx laptop
    Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
    Connexant HD Audio

Everything needed to install is installed. everything to update is updated. i'm just using a line-in mic and not a usb or anything. I've tried fiddeling with the recording settings before (the properties) and tried different combinations but to no prevail.

anything else you want to know first, just let me know alright?

Make sure your mic is plugged in to the right place. You sure your audio drivers are updated? I'd check one more time with the motherboard's manufacturer and see if there are any drivers. Right click your sound icon and click recording devices. Right click any icon and make sure both disabled and disconnected devices are enabled. test your mic each time you change something so that you know at what point it starts working. Make sure microphone is plugged in, that microphone is enabled, and that it is in the purple jack. If all that doesn't work, enable stereo mix and see if that helps. if not, right click it, click properties, click the listen tab, then click listen to this device. You may also need to change the playback (the menu right underneath the words "listen to this device". try changing it to different things and clicking apply each time. It should have your mic listen in there though. Play wit hte other settings in there, always undoing what you do if it doesn't work. My next item would be the line in. Try and let me know how this goes

yes i can do all that. everything is normal and updated. i skype with my mic plugged in with the correct drivers. and yes i've done everything you said. the problem here is that when i enable "Waveout Mix", mic is disabled.
all the other obvious has been done already.

are you trying to record/listen to waveout mix? and playback while winamp is running? if so .. well of course you're going to get distortion.

please attach screen shots of your Playback & Recording settings in W7
