Dell Inspiron Laptop No Stereo Mix

Have tried all the suggesions to get the Stereo mix option on my Dell Inspiron N5010 64 bit new laptop to work. Updating driver, enabling disconnected devices in audio recording etc. These have all worked on many computers in the past. I undestand that Dell has some specific problems. I have been on a tech phone line with Dell for over 2:30 hours to no avail. According to a tech bulletin from Dell they admitted blocking Stereo Mix but said they have decided to "allow" the option. So how can I do it?

Can anyone help? THX

Your best option would have been to post on the Dell users forum, Laptop hardware section. There are people on that forum that can specifically address this on Dell's. Home - Dell Community

First, in most cases the Dell IDT sound drivers need to be used. Non-Dell drivers will either not work or not work correctly. The lack of System Mixer is an issue on SOME Dell models (but it's not just a Dell issue, there are other Vendors with PC's that have the same issue).

Hello jjan and welcome to the Forum.

In addition to the excellent advice from fireberd, I'd also suggest making sure you have the latest drivers from the Dell Support download page. (You didn't indicate if you used the Dell page or a 3rd party driver site.)

And since you indicated this is a new computer, it should still be under warranty. In the U.S. you can call Dell Warranty Information at 1-866-777-1542.
