    No sound with HDMI connection.

Ok, when I connect my HP DV6 laptop to my Samsung TV the picture works fine but the sound comes through on the laptop only, not the TV.

The problem is that I don't seem to have the driver for HDMI audio output, see the below picture:

Now, a friend came over today and he has a Dell laptop with EXACTLY the same graphics card (ATI HD 4570), he used the HDMI cable with my TV and the sound comes through fine.

I looked at his playback devices and he had an extra sound driver called "ATI High Definition Audio Device". I do not have such device. I do not have this device after downloading and installing the same "Catalyst Control Center" again and again and again and again. I am tired of seeing this damn control center as it never installs the driver I need.

I just need one, one measley driver to have sound and ATI has completely failed me at this, their control centre regularly crashes when I try and install it and my display sometimes crashes too.

Where are you downloading the ATI driver from? The ATI website or the HP website?

I have a HP DV6, but it has a Intel card instead and the HDMI sound device lists+works fine. You should get all the updated drivers for your DV6 model from the HP website if you haven't done so already. With that aside, have you checked the 'Sound, video and game controllers' in the device manager? Do you see or not see a 'HD Audio HDMI' listed there? If it's listed, does it have a yellow warning symbol against it?

Did you check the IDT HD sound control panel? (it's in the task bar, my DV6 has that) to see if it mentions your HDMI int. and its settings?

    This worked for me

    Hello

I had intermittent detection of the HDMI in "Control Panel/Sound", and eventually no detection (the following solution may also work for those who were never able to obtain a signal at all). For me updating the audio driver fixed the problem. You can update the audio and video drivers by following the steps below (found these steps at Microsoft website). My computer is only 6 months old, but still needed the drivers updated. No special system setting are required as written in previous posts, if the driver is the problem. I was also extremely frustrated with the ongoing problem and hope the driver updates work for you. Good luck!

    1. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.* If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. In Device Manager, locate the device you want to update, and then double-click the device name.
    3. Click sound video and gaming controller
    4. Open each audio controller in sound video and gaming (one at a time) and update by Clicking the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver and follow the instructions.
