Sound does not go to USB earphone/mic automatically

    Hi,

I am using a Toshiba A660-1FH laptop with Win7 64 bit. When I plug in my Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000 headset with mic the sound does not change automatically from onboard speakers to the USB peripheral. I have installed the livechat 1.4 software for the LX-3000 but nothing happens. Also, there is no sound coming from the headset and it keeps coming from the speakers.

The only method I found to change the sound from onboard speakers to the USB headset is to disable the onboard speaker using the sound settings. However, windows needs to search for the sound device and enable the onboard speakers back again if I want to switch back to the onboard speakers. Does anyone know the solution to the problem?

There was another recent post about this and the solution there was to change the default playback device to the USB headset in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally Sound.

If this is not where you are changing the setting, try it. I know it's a hassle as you have to change the default playback device back to the PC's speakers when you want to use them but it does work.
