    No Sound - Compaq Laptop/ Build 7100 (64-Bit)

    Here's what I have:
    Compaq Presario V5210US
    Windows 7 Build 7100 (64-bit)

In hardware tabs, there's an error code 28 next to the audio adapter.

    Hardware ID's for Sound Card:
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_30AE103C&REV_02
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_30AE103C
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&CC_040100
    PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&CC_0401

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hi
According to M$ an error code 28 means device driver not installed here is the info
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/125174

Find the driver for your sound card at the mfr and install it make sure you get 32 bit if you are or 64 bit in you are 64 bit

    Hope this helps

I've tried installing the 64 bit version of the drivers provided by Compaq, to no avail. The drivers claim to have installed, Windows reboots, nothing happens, same error message.

The only versions available are for Vista or XP; the do not list support for Windows 7 yet.

I am therefore looking for a workaround. If anyone knows a specific driver that will work for the 64 bit Windows 7 for the given hardware ID's I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks though, Ken.

@ original poster Have you tried downloading the driver to your desktop> then open it find the setup.exe file. click on properties> you'll see a run in compatibility mode box, check it, then choose either Xp sp2 or Vista. Go into device mngr slect device then update driver> find it yourself> point it ot the desktop and have it instasll it> reboot and see if it works

    i have figured it out.
    here is the driver "http://driverzone.com/device.php?id=72038"

note: it needs to be run in compatibility for this version of windows which "7" will figure out after its first fail, and sry the above link isnt a hyperlink but my html skills are rusty.
