    Microphone Problems PLEASE HELP!

I have recently wiped my laptop and reinstalled with windows 7 and have been having problems with microphones ever since. Originally I was trying to fix the built in microphone, but now I have bought a brand new microphone.

The problem is the microphone is not picking up sound correctly. It only picks up sound dimly and I am unable to turn it up.

    Please to help.

Do you have, by any chance, paper stuffed inside the mike cavity?

Try a driver update? Should work, or try running the program in a compatability mode. First things that come to mind.

At the begining with 7100 RC 32 bit, microphone level was also very low. I have found that in Manage audio devices, recording, microphone, properties, levels - the default level is low. When I changed it to max it was OK. However I noticed one interestiing issue - In advanced tab you can check the option "allow applications to take exlusive control of this device", and then different application change the level in general, not only for that application. In my case Skype change the max 100% level to 70 %.
And even when I again set up 100% in audio configuration, Skype when I opened it make it lower - to the level appropiate for Skype but not for other application. When I unchecked in Skype an option "automatically adjust microphone settings" the level is kept on max. So you can unchceck the "allow applications to take exlusive control of this device" or keep proper level in application you use.
I hope it will solve your problem. It is solved in my case.

Is the answer to the microphone glitch after intstalling Win-7 going to be a clean install of Win-7 or a clean install of my previous version of Vista? That's what a tech support guy told me on the phone today.
I think they just use that (clean install) when they don't know what the heck to do.

Also; my Photoshop Elements 4.0 stopped working. does anyone have a workaround for the microphone problem or the PE 4.0 problem?
