No audio, (AC97, onboard soundcard ASUS mobo)

Hey there,

I have a problem I've been trying to fix for some weeks now: no audio.

I have an ASUS P4P800 motherboard with onboard audio, according to AIDA:
Analog Devices AD1985 @ Intel 82801EB ICH5 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-2/A-3] PCI

I've downloaded and installed the latest AC'97 drivers, no fix. Device management says everything is installed correctly, the soundcard is shown as 'Realtek AC'97 Audio'.

For the record:
- Sound is not muted
- Onboard audio is turned on in BIOS
- MOBO jumpers are set correctly
- Headphones don't work neither
- I've tried manually installing the drivers, still nothing

What else can I try?

By the way, I've searched this nice forum very thoroughly, but none of the solutions proposed in other, similar, topics, worked for me.

According to the ASUS site its a ADI AD1985 "SoundMAX 6-channel CODEC", nothing about a Realtek sound card.
Another thing also I don't think the motherboard supports Windows 7 because there is no Windows 7 drivers on the ASUS site, I would recommend that you try and download the SoundMAX drivers and see how you go.

I've downloaded them before, now uninstalled all other drivers and manually installed with the SoundMAX drivers from the Asus-site (selected OS XP), and it works!

Ehehe i tried this driver how i wrote in my last post

"Audio AC97 6.0.1.6305" is a Realtek's Driver, this:

Vista/Win7 (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file)

The installation is perfect, Windows 7 think that the sound work but sound, not work and i'm very sad

Might sound like stupid question but, are you sure that it is set to default Playback device?

When you play music dose the speaker icon volume level go up and down as if there is sound playing?
