W7 64bit: mp4 Codec for WMP

I have the latest wmp...12 I think it is with a Windows 7 64bit install.

It won't play mp4 videos.

Is there a codec anywhere I can apply?

thanks

You don't need any more codecs to play mp4's on Windows Media Player. I have a much lower spec PC than yours and they play perfectly.
Just to eliminate things, have you tried playing the same files in another player. If not try Media Player Classic from here;
Media Player Classic - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
It is free and very good. I think you might have a corrupt file in Win Media Player but lets see if the files are OK first!

Well I can play them on VLC but VLC doesn't let me 'add tracks' to list...I have 15 or so mp4 video files and I want to watch them all without having to load one at a time into VLC...VLC seems to allow you to have a playlist for audio these days...back in the day you could only load one song aty a time into VLC.

So...VLC is fine....I dunno why WMP isn't playing them...if you guys say it should play mp4's

Sorry but you seem a little confused here. MP4 are video files. Sure they might have music on them but you seem to want to add songs which I suppose you mean audio files. You can't mix and match audio files with video files like that!
If you want to make MP4 files play one after another then I suggest you import the files in the order you want into a video editor and create one MP4 file from them!

You can play them .... just open the playlist from the "View" menu and add the videos then they'll all run simultaneously.

On the contrary, you are the confused one. No offense. I never said I wanted to listen to audio files. I know mp4 files are video files. I was stating that VLC wont let me select all 15 mp4 files and add them to its playlist. Some years ago, as I alluded to, VLC wouldn't let you add more than 1 song. Just like I can't add more than one video file/ mp4 file now. Although I might have an answer for than, thanks to mitchell65.

That's besides the point. The point is, WMP wont play these mp4 files. And I want to know how to play them.

Well I have now just downloaded some MP4 files from the net and they play fine in WMP. I have done what Ambimom says above and added them to a play list. I started with the first and they continue to play one after the other all as you want to do. From this I can only conclude that either the MP4's that you have are corrupted or there is a fault in Windows media Player on your system. Try downloading some more Mp4's and if they don't work in WMP try a scannow session.

Whatever...these mp4 files I have, have probably been encoded by some nut in some esoteric mp4 format

I'd suggest using Shark007's Codec Pack and forget about wrecking your system with other codec packs or 3rd party Video Players.

Here: Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs - WMP12 Codecs
and here: Shark007.net - Windows 7 x64 Codecs - WMP12 Codecs

You need both for 64-bit Windows 7

Install them and run suggested settings, you'll find every single multimedia file playing in WMP/WMC
