Windows 7: Annoying Default Bug

Annoying Default Bug

So this is more of just an annoyance than a huge problem.

For whatever reason I can no longer simply plug in my headphones. I have to right-click my volume button, select playback devices, and then click and set headphones to default before I can hear any sound. This happens inversely once I unplug my headphones and then have to do the same method to get my speakers to produce sound.

This seems to happen because Windows believes my headphones are constantly plugged in, whether they are or not.

Device manager show NVIDIA High Definition Audio as my driver, accompanied with High Definition Audio Device. I'm not sure which is responsible. I have updated the NVIDA driver but that didn't fix the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've attached an image to better illustrate my problem.

Try this, go into device manager, highlight Nvidia high definion audio, right click it, and then disable it.

I tried disabling the Nvidia Driver but that only removed my HDMI audio out.

Any other suggestions?
