Only Rear speakers work?? NO SOUND!!

Hi,

I have windows 7 64bit Ultimate and have a very strange issue. I have no sound and have read through forums without sucsess!! the only way I have been able to get any sound at all is to swap to 5.1 mode and plug speakers into the rear out! and guess what! all I get is the rear out. ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!! before you say "go and download the realtek windows 7 drivers " i have done that and yes I have also connected to windows update and tried that also. In stereo mode - nothing... in quad mode .... nothing ..... 5.1 no other channel but rear out works (outputting rear sound out) any other mode. nothing!!!! BTW I have no front sound jacks plugged in to the mobo would that be a cause?

Hardware is Gigabyte GA-K8N-Sli modo with on board sound. Its running AC97

I got exactly the same problem. Using realtek drivers only the rear speakers work. using MS drivers, centre and subwoofer work but not front/rear.

Did you manage to solve?
