For Users of the Crosshair IV Formula Motherboards
For those of you that have the Crosshair IV Formula and are thinking of using a Creative Sound Card
TAKE NOTE ! Turns out that if you ever install the X-Fi codecs that come on the installation disk with the Crosshair IV Formula motherboard, you will need to do an entire reformat of your hard drive and O/S that contains the drivers for your system before installing the sound card.. Ugh, what a pain in the "You Know What !". After resorting to Advanced System Optimizer 3 to make use of the un-install utility, I noticed that there was a registry entry pertaining to the on-board X-Fi sound "card" that could NOT be removed. No utility I found or used would un-install or remove it. Driver Sweeper didn't even find it. After performing a hard drive re-format, and re-installing my O/S; I am happy to report that it is working just fine. Well in truth...I only thought the card sounded good before! The difference is remarkable. The quality of sound I am experiencing now is the richest, and fullest I have ever heard. It's definitely a card worth purchasing even if you have to do a little work, to get it to work.
P.S. When re-installing your Motherboard utilities, DO NOT install the VIA Audio codecs either. I noticed on Via's site that they recommend that you avoid installing their codecs if a third party sound card is to be used...Good to know.
