coaxaudio to tv not working

Hey I just recently installed win7-64.

My sound is working perfectly fine when my headphones are plugged in.
But when I plug my tv audio cable in, it won't output, not sure how to fix it.

Been using this setup in xp32 for 2 years.
picture: pc - DVI->HDMI - tv
audio: analog coax

Though I did just get a new motherboard and soundcard, id think it should still have worked.
MB: ASUS Rampage II Extreme
Sound: SupremeFX X-Fi

I've installed the most recent "vista" sounddriver from asus SoundMAXAudio610X6480_Vista.zip.

Hope someone can tell me how to get it working.

Probably a much easier solution than what you are trying, one less cable too. Locate the SPDIF out header on your motherboard and use the SPDIF cable that should have come with your video card. Connect that cable from the motherboard header to the SPDIF connection on the video card, set the audio out to SPDIF in the Windows settings, and you should now have audio over the HDMI connection.

Cables tend to confuse me.

Not sure if the audio cable I have is coax, just thought it was. Might be its just named an audio cable..
I have the cable directly from my soundcard to my tv.
The pin at the computer end has one pin, and is placed where you use headphones. The one at the tv has two exits, 1 red and 1 white.

I tried to take a closer look at that SPDIF you talked about, as far as I can tell there is a 4pinslot on my soundcard for it. Nothing on the motherboard though(looking at the mb manual). And the only free slot on my gfx seems to be a 2pinslot?

I've googled and read up on what SPDIF is. Reading various forum post I think the cable im looking for is a 2pin->2pin?
As far as I can tell there is no SPDIF cable that should have come with either my motherboard or gfx.

Zoom in, the small cable directly above the DVI-HDMI adapter is what should have come with your card (and from the looks of it has 2x4 and 1x2 plugs on it); that is the cable you connect to the SPDIF header on the sound card and the header on the motherboard. In most cases it is on the motherboard but i the case of yours with that audio riser card, it is on the card itself,

They changed how things work in Vista and Windows 7. You have it set to the correct output in the Windows playback settings?

Thanks that enlightened me quite a bit on the SPDIF, exactly the same image as in my manual. :) Now im sure where it's supposed to be connected to.
Sadly the only thing not in my gfx package is that cable.
Got three other older gfx's in original package in my basement, also with DMI->HDMI. None of thoose had that kind of cable either. So looks like I have to buy a new one if im going for that.


Theese are my output devices, leaving SPDIF out there's only speakers.
Not sure if there is supposed to be something else for direct audio.
I remember that there was some kind of autodetect in xp, but disabled the popup 1 year ago or so.

Impossible to get that pesty cable anywhere, even contacted asus and im still without a way to get that SPDIF cable.

Am I really the only one that can't get sound to my TV with a standard analog audio cable?
I'm on the verge to installing XP again, gone over a week without any series lol.

Assuming you are using the yellow connection on the sound card (manual lists it as the digital coax jack), do you get any sound on the TV when you set it to SPDIF out in the Windows controls?

Yea, But I found out earlier in the thread that the cable I currently have is not coax. It's a standard audio cable as far as I understand.

Always used to plug it in the green, thats for headphones.
Cable doesnt even fit in the yellow lol.
But I've tried the cable in all jacks, both with speaker and spdif interface set as default. The green noisebar moves up and down on both, when they are active and there is sound.
So There is some kind of activity, but no sound get's send to TV :/

The green jack is actually the front speaker out (not to be confused with front panel jacks), and can be used for speakers or headphones. If that is how you have it connected I assume you were using either of these,

to go from the computer to the TV (unless the TV has a stereo mini-plug on it). In any case using the green jack you need to set it to Speakers in the Windows settings, also make sure that it is set to 2.1 on the Configuration settings.

If your TV has a digital coax in connection, you can try using a regular RCA cable from the yellow jack on the card to it, then set it to SPDIF out. If that works you can use that cable, or look for one that is of a heavier gauge like this one,
