Windows sounds only through one speaker

Something strange, my Windows desktop sounds are only coming through one speaker. When I run the test in the control panel/sounds section both speakers work fine. I have full stereo in all games and apps just not my desktop sounds. The only thing I can think is that maybe MS is doing this so action sounds on the left monitor will come through the left speaker and those on the right monitor the right speaker though I only have one monitor so I can't tell.

Yes, definitely have my system set to stereo. All other music and games play perfectly fine but the Windows theme sounds still only come through one speaker, the right one. Kinda strange huh.

Which sound card do you have? It is possible the you may need to reinstall the driver. I had a problem similar to your's recently, and I dismissed the idea that it was a driver issue, until I had gone in circles with other ideas. I even began to think that the card was bad, but uninstalling the card and reinstalling it solved the problem.

If the volume is low everything works fine, but once you turn it up using the volume button, the left speaker stops working. This only happens when I use the button, and not when I adjust the system sound. I tested it with the audio configuration, and I can hear what's supposed to be the left...

Trouble with right front speaker: crackling/popping sounds
I bought some Logitech Z506 surround speakers for my PC, but after hooking them up I found the front right speaker (the one with the thick black cord) was making a crackling/popping sound. So I took them back and got another set and the exact same speaker was again making a crackling/popping...

No sounds at all in Windows 7
All: For some strange reason, no sounds (system or otherwise) occur when I turn on my Windows 7 HP-PC. After I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, everything seemed fine; but now, there are no sounds. It's a dual boot PC; so, my speakers work with Linux. I have tried every suggestion I have...
