    USB Trouble Since Update

    Hi All,
Overnight my computer completed a new Windows Update and now my audio speakers don't work. They connect via USB. The USB does work with everything I connect except the Bose Companion 5. When I plug in the USB cord nothing happens at all. I've also tried connecting to a different computer that didn't have the update and the speakers work fine. I would just do a system restore to before the update, but it doesn't show as an option when I click on system restore - I would have to go back to a saved image from Janu 7th.

Any advice would be great. Appreciate it!

Connect the Speakers to the PC. Go to the Device Manager/Hardware and Sound and Finally the Sound Panel. The Bose Speakers should be shown in the Playback panel and if there is an icon for them, make them the default playback device.

If that does not fix it, the windows status may be corrupted. To fix that there are two possibillites.

    1. If the speakers are detected correctly in the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the Speakers and then LEFT click "Uninstall". Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it should detect and reinstall them.

    2. If the speakers are not recognized by Windows, with the Speakers connected there should be an unknown device listed in the Device Manager, USB listing. Uninstall the unknown device in the Device Manager. Disconnect the speakers and then restart the PC. After Windows starts, connect the speakers and they should be detected and reinstalled.

Try updating on web the driver software for
"Standard Enhanced PCI to USB host controller"
    > 'Device Manager'
    Scroll right to bottom
    >in 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers'

I have read SP1/updates fails to do this properly on many machines.
