Lost Audio
So I went to Control Panel > Sound > Playback tab to test the speakers on this lappy because I thought one was sounding raspy(it's my daughter's and she plays it loud) I right clicked on Speakers and hit Test.I got the little chime from both speakers and went to test them a second time at a lower volume level and hit Disable from the drop down by mistake.Let the fun begin!! So now under playback,we have no device installed-Crap!! So I simply right clicked the speaker icon in the notification area(which now had the red X) and chose troubleshoot. That appeared to go well as reported by Windows, and a check back under the Playback tab showed my speakers returned with a green check mark ready to go.Great-thought I dodged a bullet until I hit test again launching a window telling me that "The device is being used by another application-please close blah blah)Tried a reboot and same thing. There are no external devices plugged in,and I'm only sitting at the desktop with the Sound window open. There was no Windows start up sound at boot and there's no audio to be had anywhere.Device Manager reports the device working properly, and that I have the latest driver installed. All instances of the audio were fine until I blundered here. And thanks to the optimized defrag of the hard drive, there are no restore points available.Any ideas??
