Problem recording after last update

I recently had my computer automatically update and when I went to record it had to reinstall my microphone drivers. I found this odd but ignored it and tried to record. When I did it recorded at extremely loud volumes so I changed USB ports thinking that was the problem. The second USB port I tried installed the drivers and my recording program (audacity) didn't even recognize the microphone. I plugged it into my last USB port and it recorded at extremely low levels. No options, other than the input volume in Audacity, have been changed including the mic volume through the computer settings itself. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to get back to recording.

I would start here....
System Restore

and get back to where you could record.
I do not let my systems AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE...
I review each update and the smaller ones are usually pretty safe and don't mess your system up.
The larger ones I right click and hide until it has been out in the general population for a month(to find out if there are bugs with that update!)
Not everyone will agree but so far my method hasn't failed me.

it doesn't have any system restore dates. I don't know why it hasn't created any automatically. Are there any other possible fixes?

1. To check for restore point run the following command foolowed by Enter in elevated Command prompt:

vssadmin list shadows

That will show all the shadows (restore points).

2. For imaging, watch one of my tutorials: Imaging with free Macrium

3. You have definitely made a false maneuver somewhere. Restore points do not disappear out of the blue. Maybe you made a disk cleanup or a similar operation.

Apparently all I needed to do was restart my computer. It's now working fine. Thank you for your help.
