Anyone running an Asus P5K Premium WiFi mobo here?

    Hi All,

I just started toying with Windows 7 64 bit, and I've hit my first snag (a common one it seems): getting my onboard 7.1 surround to work. Mobo is an Asus P5K Premium WiFi.

At first, before installing any drivers, it worked perfectly fine in the sound test, all 7 speakers. But I can't seem to make Media Player use em, or the one game I've installed, Fallout 3. In both cases, only the 3 fronts work. I'm assuming this is a driver issue, as it works fine in 32bit Vista.

I tried installing the last Vista 64 bit driver, but I get the same results: the configuration/tester app works fine, but only the front speakers work in Fallout 3 and WMP. The driver I used was:

    AD1988BBlackHawk_V6100126280JVBWHQL.zip

Any idea if such a driver exists for Windows 7? I found this one in another post (DLing now), but I'm not sure if it's the right one for my mobo:

    Any clues guys? Thanks!

    Hi,
I am running the P5k Premium motherboard and I'm not getting any sound at all. Driver says it is installed and working ok and I can't installany other drivers as it comes up saying OS not supported with the version.

    Thanks

Managed to fix it, it seems Windows 7 doesn't like speakers plugged into the head phone socket on the front of the machine. VIsta didn't have a problem with this and happily played sounds through the speakers through that connection.

Lucky you! I never did. However, I did manage to cook my bios from a flash gone wrong. So I bought an i7 mobo/CPU/RAM with a Creative Labs X-Fi sound card included in the mobo bundle. Haven't tested the surround yet, but considering drivers are available from Windows update, I don't think there will be a problem.

When you say it worked, do you mean you got full 7.1 surround in games and music/movies?
