HDMI not an option in Playback devices

I know this is a subject that has probably been hashed to death, but I'm not finding the answer that I need. How do I get the HDMI to show up in my Playback devices?

I plug my HDMI cable into my computer, and into my TV. Check.
There is not an option for HDMI on my playback devices, but there are options for Speakers, Headphones, and digital Audio (S/PDIF) -- the digital audio only appeared after I uninstalled my Audio driver, and restarted the computer. And no, there is no sound on my TV w/ the Digital Audio device (although it says it is ready, when my HDMI cable is plugged in).

I have also unstalled my NVidia driver and reinstalled it.

A few months ago, even after installing Windows 7, I was able to do a troubleshoot, which fixed the HDMI problem, and allowed me to play sound from my laptop, through the TV speakers. I promise. It really happened. On Playback devices, the HDMI option was there. But now it's not, and I can not figure out how to get it to show up.

I selected "Show Disabled Devices" - and nothing else appears.

I can not figure out, for the life of me, how to get the HDMI option to reappear. I even ran the troubleshooting utility again - to no avail.

This is making me crazy, because it has worked in the past.

In doing this, we may be able to suggest specific drivers to you, such as your graphics card drivers (including the audio driver that comes with it for HDMI) and your motherboard Driver for the onboard sound or audio for your sound card, if you have one. If I were you, I would also make sure I updated my computer manually, checking it a couple times to make sure I got these updates: SP1 and any update that mentions compatability with windows.

Let us know when you've got those specs filled out! At the top of the forum you will see "Welcome, (and your name in this location)". Click your name, then click on the "system Specs" tab, and fill that baby out to the best of your ability. Let us know if you need help finding out what some of your computer's parts are called.
