SoundMAX 5.1 does not work

Hi everybody.

I've tried several times solving this issue but nothing seems to work.

I own an Asus M2N32-Sli motherboard with SoundMax 7.1 integrated audio and I'm trying to get a 5.1 sound system work on this. Windows is able to recognize the audio card perfectly (I don't even have to install any drivers). Control Panel allows me to configure it just fine, even the test works great; all 6 speakers work in the test, but they do not work in any application (Windows Media Player, Power DVD, Winamp...), I only hear the front speakers, not the sorround or the SW/center ones.

I guess this is not a driver issue since they work perfectly in the test, but if anyone can give any suggestion, I'd really appreciate it.

Of first off make sure that you are allowing other devices to allow exclusive control over the speakers...check the screenie...and also post some pics of your sound properties to see what is up

I got it as you show (other applications allowed) but still doesn't work.

I've just installed a new driver; same results.

same problem has been posted in 30 other threads. this is a known issue and there is no known solution at this time sausme. there's many people, including me with the same problem. i've tried almost everything, including changing the registry, trying every single audio driver, but it just doesn't work. and it's the same as you have - it works perfectly while testing, but in every other application, only 2 speakers work. i'm actually finishing downloading the final version of windows 7 that had just leaked couple days ago and i'm gonna install it tomorrow so i'll see if that works.

Turn on speaker fill and it will work, it works on my pc, but it is not real 5.1

I had a same problem with my sound card SoundMax 1988a on Asus P5B.I solved this problem with AD1988_Vista_610015110 Vista driver.

I only have that problem when I chenge from 16 to 24bit....
On 16bit work just find...

please help me to find a driver for SoundMax AD1988 audio codec.

For almost 1 week had the same problem, than after reading a lot-installing uninstalling,

just change in control panel - sound - advanced properties to 16 bit (cd quality)

I was struggling to get my 5.1 system work with my 64bit win7. I tried installing a bunch of different drivers and messed around with the sound Control Panel but nothing seemed to work.

Well it turned out that I just needed to enable "Sonic Focus" in the SoundMax Control Panel and voilá. I'm currently using the 1988AB V6585 driver package which I downloaded from Asus' website for my motherboard. Hope this helps!

windows 7 will automatically detected a true 5.1 movie or a music files so if you have 5.1 speakers in win 7 and are listening to music and it is only playing thru the front speakers its right Try to download Media player Classic the do this (IN pic)

Problem:
HI I have the same problem in XP when I was watching movie or listing to music, it was playing thru all the speakers (5.1)not true 5.1 . But in Win 7 only the front 2 speakers (Stereo 2.1).

It is Right that in Win 7 it plays thru the front speakers (Stereo 2.1) WHY Because mp3`s are only Stereo 2.1 and about all 700MB movies.

True 5.1 is for 5 channels Front 2 ,Rear 2 and Front Center . The Movie or Music HAS to HAVE IT

and to enable the matrix is BS it sounds like SH*t (ticking the room option)


Solution:

On Win7 I Listen to music and watch movies on Media player Classic. WHY because it Can enable the channels I need, this is the only player that I could fine that can do this.

Here is what to do in it to Get sound thru all 5 speakers NOT TRUE 5.1 Sound also works with more speakers All the same sound thru all the speakers and doesn`t sound like Crap



a 5.1 Movie that has 5.1 will win 7 automatically get it This is The only player that Plays SPDIF (Optical) The right way. But you have to Check the SPDIF in your Sound Manager and in the player (This is not for music)





Because Win 7 don`t do it Self when trying to play a Dolby Surround 5.1 DTS .....
