    Sound cuts out and stutters

    Hi Guys

I'm having a lot of problems with my sound at the moment, and I have no idea why it's happening, basically no matter what sound I listen to through my pc it stutters and cuts out then comes back on which as you can imagine is very annoying when listening to music or in the middle of a film! I thought maybe it was a heat problem so I moved the pc to a well ventilated place, but I'm still having the same problem! I've run virus scans and they all came back clean, so to be honest I'm baffled as well as annoyed by this problem.

    Please help!

My first guess would be the driver for your sound card or motherboard sound output. Check in your device manager, see if you have the most up-to-date drivers, and if you do have the most up-to-date drivers from Microsoft, try getting the drivers directly from your sound card manufacturer.

Generally, the Microsoft drivers are not the best or even the latest drivers. On some PC's, especially Dell's with the integrated (on the motherboard) audio, Dell sound drivers are needed as non-Dell will either not work or not work correctly.

Because of Microsoft's validation procedure for drivers and software, it can take a long time for a submitted (to Microsoft) driver to be validated and show up and in many cases the vendor has issued later drivers.

I've been facing a similar problem (see my thread for details) and I've just fixed it! Here are the steps I followed....

Downloaded Realtek HD Audio Codec from Realtek website
Downloaded the latest driver update for my sound card (compatible for my Win 7)
    Reinstalled Win 7 from scratch
    Installed Realtek Codec
    Installed sound card driver

and voila! No problems so far. No lags, no freezes, no stutters. Audio playing smooth as butter.
