Windows 7: Built in microphone not working after upgrading to Window 7

Hi,

The built-in microphone on my computer (Acer Aspire) is not working after upgrading to Windows 7 (32bit). I have tried using windows update and looking for an updated driver, but I'm not having any luck. Any suggestions?

need the exact model of your aspire to get the specs for it.

Specs are:

Acer Aspire 5100-5300
15.4 LCD screen
160 GB HDD
1.5 GB DDR2

Good news is it appears the audio device is a common one so I should be able to find the most recent driver.

okay pretty confident it's either the first download here.

The wrong one will just simply not install. Or it's possible you need both the codec and the driver.

Thanks, those are huge files to download. 87.3 MB. I am downloading the first one. There was a list of options. I am downloading this one:

Vista, Windows7 Driver (32/64bits) Driver only (Executable file)

Is this right?

yeah the top one, it's huge because it contains drivers for a whole range of realtek audio devices.

With that file size, you'd expect to get all the options on the ******* site in one .EXE file...

That's likely what they are trying to do because their components are extremely common in prebuilt machines and even some of the better motherboards use the realtek audio chips.
