Windows 7: Compaq CQ61 IDT HD Audio and Headphones

I have been experiencing this since returning to a regular non-usb headset, I cannot set independent headphones as default device, I have found a workaround by disabling Speakers and Headphones. I may just have to buy a new USB headset because this is driving me nuts. If Speakers and Headphones are enabled and sound is coming through my headset, minute i key my mic on Ventrilo it goes to speakers on my laptop.

think i fixed it, disabling independent headphones worked, headphones play right without jumping ship to speakers
