First I'd like to start by stating this is NOT the same issue as the headphone jack problem, and has nothing to do with any form of external output because those all work fine. My Problem is that since I've installed windows 7, my on board speakers will only output in 2channel (stereo) mode. I have an ASUS G51VX(BestBuy) that came with Vista preinstalled, and with Vista the entire onboard speaker system worked with no problems. For those that don't know, this laptop actually comes with a 5.1 speaker system preinstalled. This is a major problem sound wise, since anything with bass in it now sounds completely horrid. I've been searching google for a solution to this since it began (over a year ago) and have found nothing.
I'm running Windows 7 x64 (Home Premium), the card in question is an on board RealTek ALC663. I have all the latest
drivers and updates for everything on my machine. I use the machine for Gaming, Programming, and Beta Testing. I have tried the following to no avail: Complete Uninstall/Reinstall of all
drivers from ASUS and RealTek, manually editing the Registry keys associated with the sound card to try to force 5.1 mode, and Using Windows' Generic Sound
drivers.
This is extremely frustrating. I would reformat my computer, but I am physically unable to at the moment, because I am currently living away from my wife, and she has all of my computer stuff (and is unwilling to send me anything). As I have mentioned, this problem started as soon as I installed Windows 7, and everything was working perfectly in Vista (which pains me to say).
Thanks for your time.
