SB X-Fi Titanium audio device supported by application not detected

I just installed a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titianium PCI express and I'm getting an error running some software such as Console. I've searched all over and seen this problem multiple times but haven't found a solution that works for me. Most of the threads I've found are at least 6 months old so I would think someone would have found a solution.
My windows 7 is a relative clean version (installed last week). I previously had an older X-Fi sound card but I followed all the instructions to properly remove it. Removed all software via Windows 7, deleted all the drivers, and made sure all the old folders were deleted before installing the new card. Now, the sound card works in that I get audio but the quality is not good. The correct device is showing under device manager but none of the Creative software such as Console are working. Wave Studio does work but I don't think its linked directly to the card. The error I am getting is "The Audio Device Supported By This Application Is Not Detected. The Application Will Exit". I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I used the Auto Update Feature, installed the latest drivers directly from Creative's website, ect.. No luck. Has anyone found a solution to this? There are a lot of threads from last year on this exact problem but no solutions. Please advise.

Hi Mvdb. Thanks for responding. I did get the software/drivers directly from Creative's website. The newest driver says its Win 7 compatible but this is not the first time I've had driver problems with a Creative product. I guess I have not learned my lesson yet!

I actually found a slightly newer version .0008 which is the same one that comes up with the auto update feature.

OK, are you PC-savvy enough to try this?:

Make sure you know where this newest driver is located.
Goto Devices, delete / uninstall the SB card
    Reboot
Let W7 "find new hardware" but not automatically install driver... you tell it to use that new one...
