I've spent a couple days reading through the forum and trying the suggested solutions and none of them have worked.

The sound was working fine for the past 2 years since I bought my laptop. Suddenly it stopped working, got the x over the volume icon and said "No audio output device is installed" Then later it said "No speakers or headphones are plugged in" and is now back to the original message.

I've tried:
uninstalling/re-installing drivers
resetting bios
checking for dis-abled devices
Adding Environment Variables under Control Panel/System & Security/Advanced System Settings
Checking for hidden devices
...more things I can't remember

Can anyone help? I filled in my bio with all the system specs I could find...
Thanks

Welcome to SevenForums Wicoo,

We can better help you with a little more info in your System Specs.

Here's how to fill that out:
UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS

User CP (3rd item in the top menu bar) |
in left-hand column, under Your Profile, Edit System Spec |

Use Speccy - System Information - Free Download
and/or SIW to gather info for filling in the blanks.

Do me a favor and add the word laptop or desktop to the “system manufacturer” block.

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

Well, I found out that it was a hardware problem. The sound device is shot. I got an external (USB) sound card that plugs into my set of external speakers. It's a pretty good fix for a frustrating situation.
