Pockettes welcome to the Seven Forums.

It might be a new laptop, but it doesn't have the audio drivers installed. Give away on that is that any time you see the audio device listed as "high definition audio device", it is running on the default Windows audio driver and not the proper driver from the manufacturer. The default windows driver is enough to provide basic sound and not much else.

In your case go here,

HP EliteBook 8440p Notebook PC*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

to get the IDT audio driver for it (the first one listed, dated 29 Oct, 2010).

No headphone or speaker device.
I recently got the Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha headset for Christmas and tried them out. I plugged in the USB thing that came with it, which allowed you to plug the headphones and mic into a USB port, and it installed the device fine. Right now I have to send them back because of a problem with...

I've recently had to reinstall Windows 7 Ult 64, and now I'm only getting stereo sound out of my 5.1 system. Going into Sounds/Diagnostics in control panel...
