Sound Distortion With SATA CD/DVD Player

I have an ATA and also a new SATA CD/DVD Rom drives. The older ATA device plays CD music fine. However the new SATA device causes terrible distortion as if there is a loose nail buzzing in the speakers. I know it must be something to do with incompatible hardware settings but I have no idea where to start. Your advice would be appreciated.

Kind Regards

Chris

PS. I did find some links relating to sound distortion but don't know how relevant they are to this issue:

Have you tried attaching the analog audio cable to see if you get better results that way?

Thanks for your reply Dwarf. In theory this could solve the problem but there are problems. The older IDE ATA DVD rom which plays fine has an audio out plug but unfortunately the new SATA DVD rom with the distortion problem does not. Also the on board sound hardware does not appear to have an audio input plug. I suspect there must be a hardware setting somewhere that will help.

Kind Regards

Update:

After doing more testing it seems the distortion only occurs with original Time Life CD's. Other CD's seem to play OK. I am not sure why this is hapening. Maybe the CD's are stamped instead of burned or the recording volume may be higher than the drive can handle. There might also be some copy protection code that is interfering with the normal playback with this drive. The other drive can play them fine.

I hope I can find a work around.

Kind Regards

Chris

Solved

I am glad to say I found a solution to the problem. I downloaded, installed and ran Samsung live firmware update. After the reboot the problematic DVD/CD Rom drives plays all CD's (including Time Life CD's) crystal clear.
