I have a HP Media Center PC. the Model number is a1412n I am dual booting xp and windows 7, and in windows 7 I am not getting any sound. When I went to check it out, I realized that the computer was only recognizing the front audio jack. So i plug my speakers into the front jack but it still says nothing is plugged in. It works fine in XP. does anyone have an Idea? I have a Realtek ALC 882 sound card.

Thanks in advance.

the link that you directed me to would not let me download the drivers.
I think I downloaded the drivers from another website, but I'm not sure whether I got the XP or Vista version

i had a problem with ALC 882 sound card (integrated with mobo), driver was recognized by w7,but there was no sound, but i managed it with giving manually drivers from ALC880-882_Vista_V6015306.zip found on Internet (vista x64 driver for alc882) and everything works fine now :)

edit: Realtek High Definition Audio Driver R2.14 for Vista works better.

I have an abit I-N37H mobo with realtek integrated sound and i have the same issue where only the front panel is recognized and no sound comes out of it. i have tried the r2.22 drivers that came out recently to no avail. i am going to try what t2n said and manually load the drivers from ALC880-882_Vista_V6015306.zip, but i don't have high hopes.

edit: ALC880-882_Vista_V6015306.zip didn't work, and i created my own thread for my problem seeing as it is slightly different from this threads one: http://www.sevenforums.com/sound-audio/7916-realtek-only-allowing-digital-output.html

whoops, that edit wasn't supposed to be r2.22, it was supposed to be the ALC880-882_Vista_V6015306.zip.

the drivers i need would be in the vist64 folder right? (i am on x64)

and i did try 2.14 as well as r1.78, r1.90, r2.16

I'm using the 2.22 drivers (Vista x64 version) directly downloaded from Realtek's site. Works like a champ. I've read that you should download the .zip version. Just in case you downloaded the .exe version that could be worth a distant try.

I have the same computer system as the OP. I've installed the latest Realtek Device drivers for Vista 32/64 bit from the website, and the driver installs fine, and the computer recognizes it, however sound refuses to play from the speakers. When I wear my headphones I can faintly hear the sound, but nowhere near a satisfactory level, and that's at 100% volume on all counts. My sound card is Realtek ALC 882.

I tried it with 64 bit Windows 7, and since that didn't work, I tried 32-bit to see if it would make and difference, which it didn't, so currently, I'm using 32-bit Windows 7.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have Realtek 880 High Definition Audio on a Asus MotherBoard. My problems look like projectd24 . Do you have an ATI HD graphic card with integrated HDMI , because my windows used the HDMI sound as default and didn't reconized the REALTEK . Afther several hour of search I went into my Bios in the advanced option and I put my integrated audio to ENABLE instead of AUTO and windows automaticly install my REALTEK audio driver and sound work great! :P

OK, I think my problem is the same. It is NOT solved BUT............
If I plug the headphone into the MIKE input I get a popup that asks what device I plugged in. If I select HEADPHONE, everything works like it did in XP -- except that the headphone is plugged into the mike port.

is yours the same?????????

definitely and issue.

thanks to aper3 for the recommendation. I was working on an HP media center edition. By changing the audio from auto to enabled, Windows 7 picked up the hardware and installed the appropriate software for the machine. Many thanks.

a follow up on my issue with the headphone jack not working.
I decided it HAD to be a h/w issue so I pulled everything apart determined to find it this time. (I looked once before but didn't find anything).

AH HA!!!!!
The headphone jack switch was not working. After looking all over for a replacement jack and not finding it, I took it apart (the plastic on this one was not glued) and "tweaked" the switch mechanism by bending the moving arm slightly.

Everything is fine now. This procedure is recommended only for those mechanically inclined. I also had to remove the part from the pc board.
