Force restart of volume mixer task?

Any body know of a way to force a restart of the volume mixer task?

End the process, SndVol.exe, which should kill the Mixer. Then you can restart it with the link button in the volume control window.

    Not recommending this, though

Well, its just that my Line In doesn't always show in the Volume Mixer, so I've had to reboot the machine which isn't always practical (and is always annoying) - so I'm hoping this might work.

    Thanks for your input :)

Hm, well that didn't work, it just closes the window of the mixer, doesn't restart anything. Oh well.

You could also try restarting the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder service, though I'm not sure what effect this will have.

Start > type Services > Click on Services (with the cog icon). In there you should find Windows Audio Endpoint Builder. Right-click on it, click Restart.
