After Windows 7 update, no sound on my PC - solved?

Hi All,

I found a number of posts about updating/installing windows 7 and losing sound. I didn't find any consistent fix, but I was able to fix my issue. I confirmed it wasn't out of date drivers, or sound settings on the pc. As others have said, my system said all was ok and my volume even showed activity, but no sound. I tried to update drivers and it wouldn't let me. I am using an Asrock mobo for my sound. Out of desperation, I uninstalled all of the sound controllers in device manager. Then I went into my mobo setup and disabled the mobo sound. Restart. Back to mobo setup and enable mobo sound - problem gone.
Not sure that will help everyone with this issue, but it worked in my case.

Hi jboy, welcome to the forum.

Not that we'll ever know now, but I wonder if you had a corrupted or otherwise faulty installation or update of Windows 7, whose problems might've been corrected by an uninstall, followed by a reinstall. . . or, if that didn't work, a System Restore to a restore point just prior to the loss of your sound.

Just a thought, in case the problem ever happens again.

But in any event, good for you for finding the solution that worked for your particular situation!
