From what I have been advised by ASUS they have no plans to update the software for the Rampage I or II Creative Labs software for these motherboards. It kind of sux, if you have just paid for either a Rampage I or II and the software that comes with the MB is usless on Windows 7.

ASUS do not have any plans to update the software for the sound card, so I suggest you all follow suite like I've done and get a Creative X-Fi Titianium Fatality Pro. I'm not particually worried about the fact that the software for some of the features on the MB will not install on Windows 7. All I know is that, the MB and all other Hardware is compatible.

The reason why I upgraded the sound card is because the card that comes with the MB is a cut down version of the X-Fi Titainium Fatality Pro. You are missing loads of features compared with the MB version. There are Beta drivers available from Creative Labs for the X-Fi Fatality Pro and they do work with Windows 7.

    WARNING
Under no circumstances download Windows 7 Beta drivers from Creative Labs for your Creative Labs X-Fi Titainium Fatality MB Edition as they will not work. I have heard of cases where people have downloaded the drivers and then complain they don't work. They are not for your sound card period so don't bother.

Would really like to know where you got that idea from. There is absolutely nothing from a X-Fi in that Asus onboard, it is all ADI/Soundmax based, the only thing that it gets from the X-Fi is the software. If it was a cut down version of anything it would be the Xtreme Audio (which should have never been called a X-Fi in the first place).

Stormy13 is quite right, the x-fi is all software based for it's sound. Which is pretty good sounding without the hardware based components of the more costly creative cards.

Having said that if you don't have 7100 build of Windows 7, I understand Kudoos why you are still having issues with the audio drivers and/or softwares.

If you have w7 in either pre-7100(RC) or even after, this maybe why your not able to use your x-fi software as I now am in 7100.

In fact I did not have to so much as click compatibility mode on, for the audio driver to install properly as well as the x-fi software thereafter.

If you have 7100 and still these issues then I would say try a fresh install as something did not mesh with the os boot.

    Hello!

    I'm having the same problem.

I recently bough an ASUS Crosshair III motherboard, which hasn't any onboard sound system and comes with a SupremeFX X-Fi soundcard, which has a specifica PCI-E slot (black one, the first neared the CPU).

I've tried to reinstall XP SP2, SP3, 7 RC and none makes the sound card work (although light comes out of it... yay...).

On SP2 I managed to install the KB881111 (or whatever) but it simply doesn't add any HD Audio Bus drivers in the Device Manager (System Devices). On SP3 the same. 7 idem.

When in any of the Windows I try to install the audio drivers that come with the MB it simply says "The HDA Audio bus driver is required and not found. ".

Any suggestions? I simply can't install audio drivers because of this.

P.S.: I have all the latest Windows updates, in any of the versions. In XP SP2 I tried to install the audio drivers both before and after I got the updates and before and after I installed the supposed KB8811... fix.

I am having the same problem as Socrates (above). The card doesn't seem to do anything except light up. The only thing I see in device manager is "high definition audio device". Since this motherboard has no onboard sound this must be the card right? So should I try to force the driver install to this device? Thanks

    Hi and welcome to sevenforums

Could you describe your problem in detail. This is an old, old thread and you probably wold get more replies if you had started your own thread.

Just to let you know that Asus has posted an updated version of the X-Fi utility for its new ROG LGA1156 motherboards, and it's supposed to support Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit). Haven't tested yet though, and I don't know if it works with the keys distributed with older motherboards.

    Here's the direct download:

    Enjoy :)

Edit: if you're looking for other Windows 7 drivers or utilities, search for Maximus III Formula motherboard at their support site.

ASUS has been converting most of their current P45/43 boards to Windows 7 Ready....they are nearly finished them, my guess is the Maximus II will be the last one. (after all they give support to their premium customers last since we payed the most)

XFI MB Rampage 2 Gene Win7 issues

Hi there, I have the exact same issue as all mentionned above.
I did fix one of them for the Xfi software bundle
    * what I did :
    - created my admin account in Win7
    - uninstalled the XFI + Sound max
    - restarted PC
    - Right click on the Setup.exe(red icon directly in the Main CD folder)- then set to(run as admin) then <properties> then run as Win Vista Sp1 compatible mode )
    - Ran the Setup.exe from the Asus CD, ( the red executable from the CD-Rom bundled with, wich should open the main Asus frame with all the Software you can install, dont use the APPinstall, as it frozed after the first reboot, install all the components separetely )
    - From there, It installed all the apps, all correctly...The sound is good, all effects of XFI are working perfectly.Only drawback i found, my Soundmax isnt working the way it should, before, I couldnt open XFI software, but I had the Soundmax good(could change the settings to HD AUDIO 24Bits) now dont havce those options anymore... Im working around this one, since the first time I ran the CD normally, this is the only one that installed correctly, without admin and compatible stuff. Il try that and the other method for XFI software...that should work. I'll let you informed about any developpement I get from there. And for the non believers, I'll add screenshot of my Win7 version and all my the stuff working fine :P once I get all to work flawlessly

PS: I do think Asus and Creative should have had something better that some crappy drivers not working for the future GAMING OS....win7.

wich reminds me of : I bought an Antec 900 V2 case...and the 850W Antec PSU just dont fit in...Its ridiculous to have a Gaming Case, and no High end PSU intended to fit in...lol, I did managed to custom fit it in...but eh, what am I paying for, hehehe
