Windows 7: Reducing wav file size (audio file) for powerpoint?

I had completed a beautiful 82-slide PowerPoint presentation, but the wav file I embedded was HUGE (about 200 MB) and not to my choosing. I just had to have the music a certain length to span across 82 slides. Is there ANY WAY to reduce the size of this music wav file (so that it conforms to the 50 MB max file size for PowerPoint). I would rather embed this music file than to have a link. Any suggetions?

I'm not familiar with PP but could you not convert the wav to mp3/ogg or other? Or split the 200mb wav into 4 * 50mb files?

As I say, I'm not up on PowerPoint, but workarounds..... ;-)

According to this chart, along with wav you can use MP3 or WMA which are both Windows compatible compressed formats:

MP3 Audio file.mp3MPEG Audio Layer 3 This is a sound file that has been compressed by using the MPEG Audio Layer 3 codec (codec: An abbreviation for compressor/decompressor. Software or hardware used to compress and decompress digital media.), which was developed by the Fraunhofer Institute.

Windows Audio file.wavWave Form This audio file format stores sounds as waveforms. Depending on various factors, one minute of sound can occupy as little as 644 kilobytes or as much as 27 megabytes of storage.

Windows Media Audio file.wmaWindows Media Audio This is a sound file that has been compressed by using the Microsoft Windows Media Audio codec (codec: An abbreviation for compressor/decompressor. Software or hardware used to compress and decompress digital media.), a digital audio coding scheme developed by Microsoft that is used to distribute recorded music, usually over the Internet.

Thanks for the note.

From what I understand, the maximum size for embedding a music file in PowerPoint is 50 MB, so dividing the 200 MB file into four wouldn't work anyways (good thought, though). Also, the wav file is the only kind of file that will embed into PowerPoint . . . from what I've read, correct me if I'm wrong. Sooo, I'll continue to research this, as it's not an easy "nut" to crack! Thanks so much for your input.
