No sound while using usb modem on Win7 Professional 64 bit machine

Hi Experts,

I have recently got a new laptop with Windows 7 professional and facing a strange problem that sound becomes dead as soon as I connect USB modem to it and open the vendor specific software. I was using the same modem on win xp machine for last one year and did not face any such issue. I tried to install the new drivers for audio but problem still persist. Verifed the drivers for audio and modem and everything looks to be fine and working. Please advise.

It sounds like the USB modem is setting itself as the default audio playback device (possibly so you can get any audio notification from the modem). With the modem connected, check what device is set as the default playback device in the Sound panel in the Control Panel. Your "speakers" (your PC sound) should be set as the default.

I have done all such basic checks. In the control panel, my system speaker is set as default audio device. Tried to change relevant settings but nothing works out. Even did couple of steps menitoned in other forums but problem is still there. Cant surf through any videos while using this modem.
