run this command in cmd prompt: "sfc /scannow" (without quotes). try a repair install: Repair Install

Other than that, I only have conventional ways for trying to solve common sound issues. for any further (deeper) information, someone else would have to help you

If you have an option to disable front panel jack detection try that.

Well maybe I should mention that when I unplug my mic the option Microphone appears to be detected but I can't use it
I'm supposed to use Microphone FP because that what I was using when I had Win XP

Thanks it worked and this what I got from it "Windows Resources found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir/Logs/CBS/CBS.log. For example
C:/Windows/Logs/CBS/CBS.log"
if i'm not mistaken Microphone FP stands for Mic Front Panel
I have only one Mic port which is supposed to be Microphone FP
I also tried the other choice which is (Microphone) but no results

Found this tutorial: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker. Follow the tutorial COMPLETELY and to the letter.

I will help you out further on this^ soon as you follow directions and let me know what you come up with^

Alright, the FP makes sense being front panel. I'm getting old, too hard to remember all these things. So both aren't working. Have the ports worked in the past with another microphone (and can you try another mic now)?

Does your mic and headphone set only have a single plug or multiple, and have you tried different ports?

I don't recall you mentioning that you upgraded o.0

This will tell you if you are able to run WIN 7. Don't just give up when you encounter a problem. Especially when there are less than 15 posts in this thread!
Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

Comparable to Win 7, xp is horrible. Win 7 is much better at fixing issues, but perhaps you are right when you say your hardware may not be compatable with Win 7. Have you downloaded all drivers?
