Okay, so I am using a Plantronics microphone (forgot which model, but its a standard headset with headphones and microphone attached) and it connects with a microphone jack rather than a USB. When used on my other household computers it will work and record sound perfectly (these other computers are windows 7), but when I try to use it on my personal computer, it won't work. It will say that the microphone has been plugged in, but when I try to use programs like Skype or Vent my computer will tell me that no audio recording device has been picked up. However, when I do speak into my mic, It will come out of my speakers, and I don't want that happening.
I have all of my sound drivers
updated and everything so that isn't the problem. I think I know what it is though, but for some reason I can't fix it. Allow me to explain.
When I go to my recording devices to try and configure my microphone and hit properties on the microphone that is connected, I notice that the playback device it is connected to is my "Default Playback Device", or my speakers. When I try to change the tab to Realtek HDMI Output (which seems to be the one I should be putting it in) or any other device for that matter, it will not allow me to click okay or apply. This same problem also goes for any other microphone I try to use like a microphone connected to my webcam (which connects via USB). Any thoughts on this?
I really wanna use my mic so I can use my computer more efficiently, so thank you in advance for all of your help.
