external sound card advice for use with monitor speakers

Hi

Basically i've just got my new laptop this week, had desktop pc's for nearly 10 yrs with internal sound card to power a 5.1 surround system

now ive ordered some krk rokik rp5 g2 monitor speakers but i want to be able to play music from laptop with media player etc, through the monitor speakers at good sound quality.

i no your can get cheap converters, but i imagine a usb sound card with rca outputs would be a lot better yes?

budget around £70 or so. heard creative aint that good for music, more gaming, films, and been told m-audio or tascam are good for audio.

any1 else recommend decent soundcards etc

cheers

Matt

I have a recording studio. I use Focusrite (British Company) recording interface unit and also drives my Samson Resolv studio monitors and headphones.

Actually, I would try the built in sound module (card) first before buying any add on sound unit. You will be surprised at the improvement in internal sound modules are compared to what they used to be.

I have a Behringer UFO 202 that works well with no complaints. It's a basic external USB sound card that sells for about $35. Even includes a turntable input.

There is a similar UCA 202 that I think lacks the turntable input.

Edirol makes some similar devices that I think are a bit more expensive. I haven't tried them.
