Application Volumes Changing on Add/Remove Device

Hey Guys,

I've got this problem when I add or remove a device that makes an application's volume drop. I notice it most when using my KVM switch (also noticed with iphone/usb hard drive). This is especially annoying since once I've switched my mouse/keyboard to another computer, I can't change the volume slider anymore. Anyone know how to prevent my volumes from changing?

Using Win7 Home Premium x64
