    No Windows 7 Startup Sound


    I just finished installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in my system with all the latest drivers on it. I use a Crucial M4 128GB SSD. I just noticed now that whenever I restart the computer I don't hear the startup sound? All other sounds like Shutdown sound, clicking, etc. are fine. "play windows startup sound" is also checked in the Sound properties in Control Panel. What could be wrong with this? My first hunch was because the SSD was too fast for the sound to play but I asked some friends in another forum that also has the same SSD as mine that they do hear that Windows 7 startup sound.

    First Install SP1: Download: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
    and any other Windows Updates maybe that fixes your problems :)

    In the control panel > sounds > if you manually select the sound and play do you hear it then ?

    My Windows is SP1 with all updates installed.

    If you try to look at your own Sound properties in Control panel, you will see that there is no manual selection for the "windows startup sound". There's only a "checkbox". Here's a picture of what I'm saying:

How do I get rid of it? I already disabled the check box in the sounds tab of the audio properties, and I even deleted the C:\Windows\Media folder. But it still plays the sound on startup.. :confused:
When I enter the Sound properties and click on the Sounds tab, the check box Play Windows Startup sound is deactivated. The box is checked by default, but I can't uncheck it. Does anyone know how I can reactivate the check box?

Hi, Is it possible to change the startup sound in Windows 7 Home Premium? I have found where you can change the other sounds like Windows Exit, but for the startup sound I can only find where you can turn it on and off. Thanks, John
