Where do I download the HD audio manager? It doesn't come with the Realtek drivers and I can't find it anywhere on the Realtek web site

Try over at the boards home page. Download section. Pick from a drop down list.
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-EP45T-UD3LR (rev. 1.3)
There's barely any advantage, and are a handful of bugs which can sometimes rear their ugly heads, when you compare the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers to what the W7 installer will generically provide.
I suppose it depends on what hardware you have plugged in, but from point of view of stereo, and use of IM for audio/visual purposes, I'm worse off with the latest driver suite than the basic generic one.
Everything I have read says that you are better off trying drivers provided by the motherboard manufacturer rather than Realtek because the board maker might make some tweaks to the driver that are not found in the Realtek version. Obviously, if one doesn't work, try the other.
Realtek HD Audio has a control panel that leads you to the interface below:
Audio drivers from Windows Update, indeed generic audio drivers from Windows Setup, is nothing new. As long as you get the right driver for your soundchip it is all that essentially matters.
What I'm getting at is avoiding the bloaty, unnecessary, user interface and it's annoying system tray icon, which is invariably present when you either fetch a driver update from Realtek (appalling download site) or use ones which have an element of customisation for your particular mainboard vendor.
I don't much see the point having environmental audio preset variables that you can choose from; like "underwater", "forest", or "parking lot"... I want to listen to my sound, not stare at a majorly pointless and bloated GUI...
