    OK Try this. Open Control Panel, then Hardware and Sound then click the Playback tag. You should have one device that reads "Speakers". Has that got a green tick on it, if not right click on Speakers and choose "Set as Default device"

    Then make the other devices the default in turn to see if one of them works!

    sfc /scannow


    You may need to open the "Command Prompt" and execute:
    sfc /scannow

    After reading 4 pages of this thread, It looks like its an issue with the integrated audio (basically, the motherboard). Instead of replacing the motherboard, just get an external sound card and install it. It would be a cheaper option as well.
