Windows 7 - How to create a desktop shortcut (or hotkey) to speaker setup page?

Does anyone know how to go one step further and create a desktop shortcut (or hotkey) to the speaker setup page where you choose your audio channels? (ie/ where you choose between Stereo, 5.1 Surround, 7.1 Surround, etc.) It's one click after getting to the Playback page. After getting to the Playback page, you'd click "Configure" to get there. It's this page here:



I need to switch quickly between "Stereo" and "5.1 Surround" and I'd like to get here with a single click (or hotkey). Does anyone know?

You can usually drag the item name onto the desktop with a right click.

1 Click on the globe bottom left of taskbar

2 Type the word speakers or whatever into the search box

3 When the list of items appear, Right Click on the one you want and drag it onto the desktop

4 Click create shortcut here.

You can create most shortcuts this way, for instance you can open windows explorer to view your favourite folder, make the explorer window a bit smaller so that there is some desktop showing, right click on the folder, drag it onto the desktop, select create shortcut here from the dropdown and you will then have a shortcut to your folder.

When I type the words "speaker setup" or anything close to that, the only relevant thing that shows up is "manage audio device" and that takes me to the Select a Playback Device tab which I've already set up a shortcut for (thanks to this thread).

The specific target for that shortcut is: control.exe mmsys.cpl ,0 which was mentioned in this thread. So I guess what I'm looking for is the specific target to use for the "Speaker Setup - Choose Your Configuration" tab (illustrated in my previous post). It may or may not even be possible, I was wondering if anyone knew...

Sorry, it is not possible. Whilst it is possible to have the control panel for that item open at a specific tab (playback, recording, etc), it is not possible to have it open to a sub-option on a particular tab. In other words, it only opens to the parent tab.

I think i've cracked it
Right Click Desktop
Select New then Shortcut
Type into the box, control.exe mmsys.cpl
Click Next
Click Finish
And you should have a shortcut
Works ok on my machine

another quick way of getting to the 'playback devices' page is to right-click the speaker icon in the notification area.

Yes, that control.exe mmsys.cpl works fine to create a shortcut to the "Choose A Default Playback Device" tab (which I've already created). However, the tab I'm looking for a shortcut to is one click AFTER that. Once you're in the "Choose A Default Playback Device" tab, select your default device and then click "Configure". It'll bring you to the screen that I have illustrated in a previous post where you then choose your audio channels (ie/ speakers, 5.1 surround, 7.1 surround, etc.). That is the screen where I'd like a shortcut (or hotkey) to.
