    HDMI Audio Out

I have searched forums far and wide and found nothing pertaining to my issue, but if someone knows about a post, link me because I don't want to duplicate a topic. Anyways, I have a Dell 1537 Studio laptop with an HDMI output port. I want to play my Bluray rips on my home theater by connecting my laptop to my receiver via HDMI. The video works flawlessly, but the audio not so much. There is a problem many people are having with Nvidia HDMI audio: it causes random static noises and pops. That exact same thing is happening to me, except I don't have Nvidia HDMI audio, I have and integrated HD audio chip that uses Intel's HDMI audio out driver that I have reinstalled drivers, reformatted Windows, yet nothing seems to fix the problem. My HDMI audio DID work when I had Vista installed, so I know it's not a hardware problem. I have been using/upgrading Windows 7 since build 6900 I believe (January of 2009), so the RC did not fix this problem. Any ideas or is my HDMI port simply not compatible with Windows 7 just yet?

I have a lot of computer knowledge so use whatever terms you like.

    Hi PWEB

I think MS and/or Dell have some work to do, cause I see tons of audio problems, and on severall systems.

Win7 audio engine is a complete and superior but very complicated overhaul.

That's why a lot of Vista drivers won't work well on Win7.

As temp workaround you could use another audio output, either analog or spdif, until they come up with a better driver.

    update your video driver

I had this same issue with my Dell Studio 1537. I had video out, but no sound out after I upgraded from Vista 64 bit to Windows 7 64 bit.

After hours of fiddling, I went to Intel's website and downloaded the Windows 7 driver for my video card (your video card controls your HDMI port, not your sound card). Even though the device manager said I had the most up to date driver and it said my HDMI port was there and working fine, I installed this driver from Intel. (I used the .exe in case anyone cares).

Once it installed and I rebooted, I plugged in my HDMI cable and VOILA, I had video and sound.

The moral of this story: Don't believe device manager for Windows 7 drivers; and remember that you need to deal with your VIDEO driver as well as your sound driver with HDMI even if you don't have video issues.

    Good luck!

Wow you must have searched for this thread...it's an old one. I tried that with the same result thank you very much! just out of curiosity are you having any other video-related problems with your 1537? Whenever I use dual-monitors, and I do all the time, my screen gets very distorted... here's a link:

No, I haven't fixed the Audio problem. My 1537 has been a blunder from the beginning.
