    X-Fi XtremeMusic stereo flipping

    Running Windows 7 x64, build 7100.

My Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic will randomly swap stereo channels on reboot. This is using the digital output to an external DAC. Luckily, I can just reverse the rca plugs in the back of the DAC to compensate, but it's annoying.

The reversal is system-wide - in the control panel stereo test, in games, videos, everything. I'm using the latest Creative drivers, which are 2.18.0013.

However, I don't think it's anything to do with the soundcard. I tried disabling it and going back to the onboard sound, and this does the same thing.

Any ideas on what might stop this?

Could you elaborate on this a bit. A digital connection only uses one cable/connector (toslink or coax).

Sure. The setup is that I have a 3.5mm connector in the FlexiJack, which converts at the other end to an RCA plug which is in the coaxial digital input on the DAC. That DAC then has two standard RCA outputs which are connected to my speakers.

Just wanted to make sure on that, seen too many trying to get a digital connection out of the analogue jacks.

Which are you using for drivers, the one straight from Creative or the daniel_k pack?

The Creative drivers. I seem to remember trying the daniel_k drivers on another OS at some point and getting no sound output whatsoever, so I've been a little wary of them ever since. But I suppose I could give it a shot.

I tracked it down - it's a faulty extension cable.
