Wait, I don't get it?! Did you use headphones or your speakers? And is it a laptop or desktop?
I am using headphones now and the volume is at 11. I just don't get it...
When you listened to the sample on YOUR PC how was the quality?

I know!!!! Play the sample again with headphones and put your volume to 11. How does it sound?
For me, it's barely audible

Also, is it distorted in any way?
I have a wired connection from the output of my sound card to a little table radio. Volume control at a standard level.

For non-critical listening, that's what I use for ordinary listening to my mp3s. It sounded like any other mp3.

Not distorted, all instrumental, unremarkable.

Try listening through some means other than your headphones.

OK, I used my speakers on my laptop instead.
With my volume on 13%, my normal song (that I recorded the sample from with stereo mix) is fine (when I mean fine I mean the average volume, which is not too loud or too quiet). Now, to get the same volume from that sample I had to turn the volume slider all the way to 100% to get the same similar volume. It's almost like something is amplifying playback and recording.
Also, I don't use any external speakers of any kind or anything, just my laptop.

Like I said--hoodoo, voodoo, snake-handling, et al.

Trial and error.

Plugging stuff into certain jacks can disable or diminish other outputs, etcetera. In some circumstances. With some sound cards. Or maybe not. On certain PCs. On even-numbered days of the month. Etcetera.

Welcome to sound on Windows 7.

............... Well.... What's this 'rear panel' thing then?

If this is a problem I can't fix, then there's nothing I can do. Because lots of other people are having the same problem: It's just too quiet.
Actually, this is the exact same problem I'm having:http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1784513
He explained it better than I did.

The solution may be the one you don't like. Another card.

Or continue to struggle.

It's all a matter of your personal frustration level---at what point do you throw in the towel?

For all I know, Conexant has a bunch of cowboys and hay hands for programmers. I have no idea.

It's your call as to your next move.

You gave me the smack bang answer I needed. LOL!
Well, the good thing is there's software. The main thing is, I can use Total Recorder and do whatever I want to the recorded file in my audio editor. I suppose that's the whole reason why I found that. I'm not tinkering around with this anymore, I'm not getting anywhere.

But I thank you ignatzatsonic for your help anyway!
Who knows? I might figure it out someday...
