I have a pair of Dre Beats Tour earphones and they work perfectly in my iPod but when when i plug them into my dell laptop the left earphone doesn't work. I have tried:
Updating my drivers
Un-installing and re-installing my drivers
I have checked the balance between Left & Right
And I have been through every option in the Dell IDT control panel.
I still cant fix the problem could i please get some help.
Are you plugging them in all the way? If you only have it partially plugged in you will only get one side.
Does the built in speakers work OK? and have sound from both speakers?
The built in speakers seem to work properly I will try and plug in some external speakers and check them out but iv had this issue with every pair of earphones I have had. Iv tried official apple earphone sennheiser earphones and my dew beats and they all have the same problem. Thanx for the advice I will check sum external speakers out tomorrow.
You may want to post your problem on the Dell community, Laptop hardware section. Those more familiar with Dell laptops may be able to help you. If you go there, include your PC Model Number (for example Inspiron 1501) and OS as that is required on any initial problem post (too many different Dell models).

The only thing different is that my laptop is HP...
I had the same problem with a new Acer laptop i.e. one channel working with a pair of headphones I knew to be working fine. Turns out after a few inserts and possibly not putting them in far enough they have been working fine ever since - sounds weird but I put it down to possibly the internal contacts being stiff and just needed some use.

Try another earphone that you know works on other devices, which I assume you did. You can try a set of known working speakers on the earphone jack to see if they work.
This is what I have seen:
If the sound comes out of the two built in speakers of the laptop, it is very probable the jack in the laptop is defective, or it has a cold solder on its underside where it is soldered to the mother board. In this type of case the computer would have to be serviced.
The jacks in these laptop computers are particularly delicate. When jacking devices in and out, care has to be taken to not put very much stress on the jack, especially in lateral movement of any type. The jack is made with small contacts and is sort of fragile. The circuit board traces on the underside are sort of thin.
In well constructed systems, the jack should have a re-enforced housing that is soldered to the a wide trace that is part of the ground buss. But, due to the lack of space in design and because of the extra cost many manufactures do not do this practice.
I found it best to get a USB Bluetooth adapter if the computer does not have Bluetooth. Then use a Bluetooth earphone or headset to have the sound. This way there is no mechanical connection to worry about.
Had the same problem. Can't believe that the solution for me is so simple. I have heard that sounds can get "jammed up" inside your earbud. I just simply max out the volume on the left earphone and then sounds went from none to suddenly bursting out.
