Just cant get sound drivers to work

I just reinstalled windows, and tried installing the latest High def audio codec from Realtek and no matter what I do. I just cant get my sound to work.

In my playback devices, it still shows the green bar moving showing that sound should be playing, but i cant hear anything. My sound was working fine last night before I reformatted so I doubt anything went wrong with my sound card.

I've tried pretty much everything..uninstalling all my audio drivers, then reinstalling the realtek high definition audio ones, and whenever i try to install the AC'97 drivers, it gives me an unauthorized vebdir. I've also tried using the CD that came with my motherboard with no luck. and I have also tried the latest drivers from gigabytes website with no luck. Help would be much appreciated as I have NO idea how to fix..

My system specs are as follows:
    Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
    Intel core 2 duo cpu
    Gigabyte ep43 ds3l motherboard
    Gigabyte HD 6850
    4 gb of ram

You say the green bar is moving but you have no sound...correct. That tells me that the drive is installed and working but the fault my lie with the speakers themselves. Is the speaker connection fully seated? Is there an external volume knob and is it turned all the way down? Has the volume been muted anywhere? Have you looked in the BIOS at the sound settings and codecs?

Theres nothing wrong with the speakers themselves, I just plugged them into my laptop and the sound is working just fine. Ive checked and nothing is muted anywhere. As for the BIOS settings, my motherboard only had a setting that checks for the Azalia drive, and I have already tried installing the latest drivers for my motherboard from the link below with no luck, as well as also trying to install the drivers from my motherboards Cd. I'm really stumped as to what the problem could be.

The only other thing to check would be the actual physical connection on the mobo. I know from past experience when pulling out parts and installing knew ones that sometimes the connections can get bumped or pulled off or just enough to render them as not seen. Could be worth a check just to make sure everything is seated properly and all connections are firmly in place.
