    New Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1/24bit (XS71DDL) - no sound.

    I've tried installing and reinstalling and downloading and redownloading the drivers... the BEST I've done is to have loud pops and clicks come from the speakers.
    * Shut down the computer
    * Installed card
    * Plugged speakers into card
    * Started computer
    * Disabled onboard sound in the BIOS
    * Booted into W7x64
    * Downloaded drivers from DiamondMedia website
    * Installed / rebooted
    * Nothing
    ** By nothing I mean (no sound and) that when I open the sound controls in Control Panel, the green level meter that should be dancing when sound is playing does nothing. Neither "Speakers" nor the Digital/Optical out.
    * Looked elsewhere for drivers
    * Downloaded / installed / rebooted
    * Nothing
    * Repeat the last three steps several times
    * Read a different thread on this forum recommending to run the installer as Administrator.
    * Still nothing
    * Sigh loudly and start writing this post.

    Dunno where to go from here. According to the C-Media website, this card should be the CMI8768+ chipset. Yet I get nothing but pops and clicks.

    Edit: Forgot to mention that in the control panel the level meter bounces when I make noise still. (Webcam microphone.) FWIW

    Bizarre update. I wanted sound so I re-enabled the onboard sound and moved my speakers back there. In Control Panel, when I play a test sound now, the level meter in (onboard) speaker jumps, but so does the one for C-Media! (But if I plug the speakers back in there... still nothing.)

    Well, after having a look at the specs for that sound card, it seems to only support XP and 2000 for the OS. That might be your problem right there.

    Are you using the version 4.0 driver, 2010-05-26 from Support and Downloads?

    Regarding the unknown device, re-installing your chipset drivers may fix it.

    Thanks fellas. Yes, I have the latest driver from the website. It calls it the "CMI8768+ driver for Windows 7" so should be okay there...

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks again.

    Edit: Having to put < br > after each line sure is annoying.
